Tasting - Pierinvaletta Moscato d'Asti Organic

 Name: Pierinvaletta Moscato d'Asti Organic

Variety: 100% Moscato

Region: Piemonte

Country: Italy

Vintage: 2020

Price: $10.00

Wine Review: The website Timeless Wines mentions, "Delicious Moscato flavors with a tropical fruit flavors and aromas, as well as a nice fresh acidity to balance the classic sweetness" (“Pierinvaletta Moscato d’Asti Organic 2020 | Timeless Wines - Order Wine Online from the United States - California Wines - French Wines - Spanish Wines - Chardonnay - Port - Cabernet Savignon”)

Wine Folly: Pg 139 Moscato d'Asti in general—Moscato d'Asti are a "very delicate and lightly sparkling Muscat Blanc" and are considered highly aromatic white wines. Tastes of orange, lemon, vanilla, and rose petals are also mentioned. This bottle in particular showcased all of these aspects with its sweet taste and amazing aroma.

Review: Great! All of the descriptions for the wine that I found were in there whether that be the fruity or sparkling taste to the strong and beautiful aroma it produced. One thing I did notice that I couldn't find anywhere was the woody aftertaste. The drink would start off with this mighty blast of fruity sweetness and then taper off into more notes of oak which was very nice. Definitely will be buying again!

Tasting - Barefoot Riesling

Name: Barefoot Riesling

Variety: Riesling

Region: California

Country: United States of America

Vintage: Non-vintage wine

Price: $7.00

Wine Review: "Kudos to Gallo for letting people know this wine is sweet. That avoids a lot of confusion. The honey, tangerine and peach flavors are balanced with lots of zesty acidity. Delightful, and a great bargain." Unanimous (9/1/2011) - 85

Wine Folly: Pg 159 Riesling in general—Riesling can "Range in style from bone-dry to very sweet," along with other primary flavors: lime, green apple, and beeswax. It also mentioned "high atomic intensity." The bottle I tasted was definitely more on the sweet side, bringing out that apple and lime taste with it. Along with this, the aroma of the wine was a powerful and sweet smell

My Review: It was really good! I'd describe it as almost a more refined apple cider with sweetness and high acidity. It also had an almost buttery addition to it which was nice. Regarding the wine reviewer's point of view, I didn't notice any tangerine or peach flavoring to it but the main fruitiness taste with the acidity as if you were eating an apple was definitely there.

I tasted this on its own with no food.

First Blog Assignment

My personal experiences with wine so far have been quite minimal. I’ve had champagne at formal events and tried various wines during dinners with my parents, but I’ve never gone out of my way to explore the different tastes and aromas of wines on my own. Growing up, beer was the more common drink among my friends and family in social settings, which made it harder for me to step back and reflect on my own feelings about wine in general.

When it comes to my preferences for alcoholic beverages, I’ve always gravitated toward fruity and sweet flavors. This likely stems from my love of soda; the combination of carbonation and sweetness has always appealed to me. With beer, I tend to prefer IPAs, especially hazy ones, because of their fruity flavor. Similarly, I enjoy wines like Champagne and Prosecco due to their sweetness and carbonation, which align with my taste preferences.

Through this course, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of wine and its role in different cultures around the world. I’m particularly interested in how wine has shaped landscapes, both geographically and culturally, and the ways it has influenced those cultures over time. Additionally, I’m excited to explore the variations in taste of wine, depending on where they’re produced. The idea that no two wines are the same is fascinating to me, and I can’t wait to experience those differences firsthand.
